Alabama Land Survey Drafting
Land Survey Drafting in Alabama
Land survey drafting in Alabama for Professional Land Surveyors and their firms. We turn your field data, deeds, and plat research into CAD maps and record plats, with Alabama survey notes and local checklist items prepared for your direction and review.
Overview
What is Land Survey Drafting in Alabama?
We draft boundary maps, subdivision plats, easement exhibits, and topographic sheets from your survey data. Alabama drawings may reference the Huntsville or St. Stephens Meridian; send the section, township, range, and monument ties that govern your tract.
Land survey drafting in Alabama follows the survey type you assign and the 2025 ASPLS Standards of Practice. We place the certification, stated and graphic scales, basis of north, and monument descriptions, then format the plat to the local checklist for recording with the county judge of probate.
The Alabama PLS takes the survey from the client, makes every surveying decision, and directs preparation throughout. Our land survey drafting support covers CAD maps, record plats, and ALTA/NSPS land title survey plats. Arcengine is not a surveying firm. The PLS maintains responsible charge under Rule 330-X-11-.03, reviews and changes the work, and signs and seals the final.

Why it matters
What Alabama requires on a map of survey
The 2025 ASPLS Standards of Practice set the drawing requirements, including stated and graphic scales and coordinate datum, epoch, and method notes. BELS administers responsible-charge and seal rules. Title 35 of the Code sets subdivision plat content and recording provisions.
For a record plat, send the city or county checklist and the certificate wording your PLS confirms. We provide space for the surveyor, owner, engineer, and local approvals that apply. Approval remains with the reviewing authority; recording is with the county judge of probate.
Specify the project datum, zone, and units. Local CAD requirements can differ from a county-based zone assignment; confirm Huntsville requirements for work extending into Limestone County.
Show the subdivision tract’s relationship to the government survey and the PLSS corner references you provide.
Unsealed working sets carry the required preliminary note. The responsible PLS signs, seals, and dates the final map or plat.
Rule 330-X-11-.03(4) requires documented direct client contact, supervision and input during preparation, final review, and authority to make all needed changes. Final review alone is insufficient.
Changes to a survey map require the signing surveyor’s written consent. Revisions to sealed documents carry a description and date, with the original seal and signature retained.
Confirm which city or county regulates the subdivision before setting up approval blocks. Local jurisdiction and intergovernmental agreements affect the checklist.

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
No. Arcengine holds neither a BELS land surveying license nor a surveying certificate of authorization. We supply CAD drafting to licensed surveyors and their firms. The Alabama PLS takes the client’s survey, directs preparation, makes surveying decisions, and signs and seals the final. Property owners should hire a PLS and check individuals and firms through BELS License Search.
Rule 330-X-11-.03(4) requires four conditions to be met and documented: the client requests work directly from the licensee or firm; the licensee supervises and contributes during preparation; the licensee reviews the final; and the licensee can make, and makes, needed changes. A 2009 Board ruling addressed electronic supervision on a professional engineer’s petition. It does not establish that every outside-survey-drafting arrangement qualifies. Confirm your arrangement with BELS or counsel before sending work.
Use the system and units you specify. For SPCS 83, identify Alabama East or West, the datum and realization, epoch, and derivation method. Huntsville’s published application requests NAD 83 Alabama East in survey feet; confirm the current city requirement, especially for Limestone County work. We preserve supplied coordinates and label them as directed.
Send the current local checklist with your data. Huntsville’s published materials specify control ties and CAD coordinates; Birmingham has its own final-plat submission process; Mobile County lists CAD, contours, and easement notes. We lay out the applicable notes and approval blocks. The PLS confirms local requirements, and the authority decides approval and recording.
On the signing surveyor’s written instructions and consent. We draft the authorized change with its revision description and date, preserve the original seal and signature on the source document, and return preliminary check prints. You review and make the final signing, sealing, and release decisions.
